Fact, Fiction and Faith
a Palestinian Christian Response to the Occupation
Nora Carmi will be responding to the recent
60 Minutes segment (April 22) on CBS TV which examined the plight of Palestinian Christians in the Holy Land. The segment has received both praise and much criticism. The piece featured the key document,
Kairos Palestine, of which Ms. Carmi was one of the main contributors. She will also address the need to challenge the misuse of religion as a tool helping to maintain the occupation of Palestine and that organized religions can be instrumental to a peaceful solution with the model of a shared, open city of Jerusalem for all.
Ms. Carmi is a prominent Christian from the West Bank. She was chosen by the Christian community to personally address the Pope in his visit to Bethlehem a couple of years ago, at which she called on him to address the occupation, and she is one of the forces behind the Kairos Palestine document, all of which can be found on our website (sabeel.ca). A committed community-builder within the Palestinian society, Ms. Carmi, in addition to her work in the West Bank and Jerusalem, has also traversed the globe with her work for justice and peace.
Since the Kairos Palestine Document was released in December 2009, the Christian churches in Canada have taken up the call and have entered into a deeper and more unified reflection, dialogue and commitment to action on achieving a just peace in Palestine/Israel.
Event sponsored by: Beit Zatoun, Canadian Friends of Sabeel, Palestine House, Presbyterian Church in Canada and United Church of Canada.
